Highlights from the November 2023 Release
This month’s update is all about the EPM Cloud Platform, as there are no updates at all for Data Management, Freeform, or Planning, and minimal updates on the rest of the modules. The Platform itself has quite a few updates, including one that’s quite special, which is where we will begin this month: Forms 2.0 and Dashboard 2.0.
Forms 2.0 and Dashboard 2.0
Forms 2.0
This functionality will be available as part of the 23.11 release. Key among the form improvements is the move to Oracle JET, which will provide runtime and usability improvements, better scalability, and enhanced performance. Menus and toolbars have been improved and standardized, the horizontal and vertical scroll capability in form grids has been performance-enhanced, and there is now greater consistency between web forms and Smart View. Also, the POV member selector now also uses JET and has been dramatically improved.
One feature I’m most impressed with is the new Calc On The Fly capability which can be enabled on web forms. This feature leverages the outline consolidation operators and cell formulas to recalculate your forms in real-time, allowing you to see the results of your entries in the form without having to submit data and wait for a calculation to run.
Forms 1.0 do not need to be migrated to 2.0 – the functionality in the 2.0 version is runtime-only, so the application setting can be changed back and forth at any time.
Do note that Forms 2.0 requires that you enable the Redwood Experience.
Dashboard 2.0
This has been improved in several ways, and the most notable of these is the ability to directly create grids in a dashboard, and with full read-write-calculate capability. The dashboard designer has been refreshed, and dashboard components can now contain 10 tiles (up from 6), while the total number of components on a dashboard has increased from 9 to 12.
One note: dashboards that are converted from 1.0 to 2.0 cannot be converted back, nor can they be migrated to another instance on a release prior to 23.11. The conversion process can be performed individually or for entire folders of dashboards and both 1.0 and 2.0 dashboards can coexist.
Other Important Updates in 23.11
- Minor enhancements have been made to the REST API and Groovy languages.
- Application role names have been updated and standardized across the EPM Cloud platform.
- The Simplified Dimension Editor now allows selecting a Dimension Type in FreeForm applications.
- With Data Maps and Smart Push, the Job Details page in Jobs now shows real-time progress and comprehensive descriptive information.
- There is now a new connector option for NetSuite to EPM connections.
- Pipelines now have new Upload File and Download File operations for the File Operations job type.
- Task Manager now contains a new Process Automation Integration called Run Pipeline.
